Before the series with the New Zealand started, everybody was waiting for Sachin Tendulkar to score his 50th ton & become the first person to achieve this milestone. Looking at the present state of the test matches, he would certainly be the last one to score 50 centuries. But unfortunately he could not score a ton in the series that concluded today & we will now have to wait for him to fly to South Africa with the Indian team to achieve this milestone.
He was not the only one to miss a milestone. Rahul Dravid, who is just one catch short of taking his tally to 200 catches to become the first player to take 200 catches kept waiting for the ball to come to him but it couldn't happen. Though he did miss a catch in the second test match. He too will have to wait to reach the milestone in South Africa.
Virendra Sehwag surpassed Saurav Ganguly's score of 7212 runs in test matches to become the 5th highest run scorer in test matches for India , Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar & V.V.S. Laxman are ahead of him.
Harbhajan Singh besides emerging as a batsman & the becoming the man of the series has taken his tally of wickets in test matches to 378 surpassing Waqar Yunis (373 wkts) & Malcolm Marshal (376 wkts) to become the 13th highest wicket taker in the world in test matches.
Shall write more after the test match series ends in South Africa because for me test match is the test of a player. It tests the caliber of each individual where some pass & some succumbs.
Good luck to team India for their tour to South Africa.
