She started to tear the check and the plane ticket into small pieces. She put it back in the white envelope and give it back to the lawyer." Atty. I dont need that anymore, I want my son...we can live happily in a simple living. I'll be lost, if I'll go away without him. Giving up my son, is giving up my life too."Then, a moment of silence to give herself a chance to take a deep breath. Until, she can no longer control as she started crying out loud. Just like a baby throwing tantrums when you grab a toy. She went to the bedroom and started packing her things. No matter what, she is determined to get her son even without the luxury of life. All she wanted now is her baby. In all her life, she never felt such sadness she had at that moment.
The lawyer followed her in the room where she temporarily stayed. "You don't need to leave! You can stay here with your son.I have the legal power to choose who will care for the child in case the couple are gone. And as his mom, Im giving you full authority to do it. Stay, and be with your son. Will you?"
Again, Melissa stunned in disbelief. A moment of dread gripped her. She remembered what she feels some months ago. When her life was simple and the tasteless days of emptiness when nothing seems worth doing or fighting for. When life itself is a burden. At the beginning of the day that she wakes up, she needs to rise up early and toil the land together with her dad to plant root crops and vegetable. When everyday of her life is monotonous and routine, selling garden products in the neighborhood, just to earn a living. And sometimes, some could not even pay her, not until their salary day. That's why she never stop dreaming or lost hope that one day she will become rich. There's no turning back she thought. She doesnt want to get back to her monotonous life. Yes, she cant. But now its different, for the sake of her son, she is willing to sacrifice again.
She cant believe these things are happening. The fulfillment of her dreams is back, she thought. But that joy was only temporary when she remembered what the lawyer just said. With a stern voice and doubtful look she asked,"Atty. if this is some kind of a joke, please spare me from your jokes."And between sobs and pleading she said," I am bringing my son with me even without the luxury of the contract that I signed with them. All I need is my son please...please!" She is begging now for her son and not for money anymore. The lawyer could feel the truthfulness and the true love of a mother for her son. "No Melissa, Im not joking. Dont leave please, you can stay here with your child and everything here belongs to you and your son."its the lawyer now who is seriously pleading to her.
Melissa was adamant to what the lawyer said. She refused to believe,"What? But why did you give me that plane ticket for Canada, if you want me to stay with my son?"
