The couple died on the way to hospital due to a freak accident. A dump truck was out of control and suddenly bumped their car. That made their car twirl like an ice cream in the middle of the highway. There were more cars approaching and bumped their car again. The collision strikes one after the other, but only the good couple were found dead. Other victims just suffered minor injuries and went out of the hospital right away.
The couple's bodies were brought to the hospital's mortuary for autopsy. While the driver miraculously survived with just a little bruises.. After some arrangement and payment made in the hospital, the driver bring her home and the baby, as what was instructed to him before the couple died. And as they arrived home, she heard an update news in the TV about the incident. She feel so sorry that it happened. Melissa can't still believe to what had happened. She was in an ambivalent feelings of shock and sadness; excitement and confused. "What am I supposed to do now? I have my baby, but... what? 'She muttered.She was caught between being lucky to have her baby but unfortunately she is not sure whats going to happen now that the couple are dead. The uncertainty of the future for her and her child made her feeling like a failure. She feels thirsty and wanted to drink something cold. She feels like she is very ill and will go insane.
Days passed by, the couple was already buried. The legal counsel, went to the couple's house to meet Melissa and the baby. The lawyer handed her the documents of the last will and testament stating that her son was the sole inheritor of that big house and the business establishment they have. He also handed Melissa a white envelope with a blank check inside and a one way ticket only to Canada. "Melissa, you can put any amount you want, just make sure that you're not coming back!" the lawyer told her. She's stunned in disbelief of what she heard from the legal counsel. Her dreams is just within her reach, physically and literally she is holding it on her hand. She had a lot to think about, the promise of good future. She can put a lot of money in her own bank account, have a tour all over the world, buy lots of trendy and and fashionable clothes. "Wow... I could be like a model being looked up by everyone, especially in my hometown!" she mused.
She begun dreaming of all the expensive and fabulous jewelries, shoes, bags and other material things. She could be like Princess Di who toured around the world and met different people. Yes, she also wanted to donate some amount to some charity institutions, so at least, she could share her blessings. After all, she is really not a bad or greedy person. All she wished for was, her big dream to become rich one day. And that one day is now!But does she really wanted her life to be like that? Then why is she not happy? Suddenly she cried, she seemed to grieve on something she doesnt know what! Will she be happy that she will leave her son in exchange of the huge amount she will write on the blank check?
She holds the check right before her eyes. "What did it really matter? What did any of it really matters anymore? she grumbled. She moved back and stared at the check but she knows what she needs to do now!
