War

Its a sad story. Its always been so.

But then thats the way Wars are. No winners, no losers, only casualties. And thats why they are eternal. Meant to be fought in every age, every century, every decade and even every second. No victory is Final.

One would think Life was War. And all of us soldiers awaiting death in battlefield, some as heroes, some as villains, mostly as nobodies.

There will be those who'll fight a fair battle. Sometimes with the enemy, sometimes with themselves. Submit themselves to the cause. Sacrifice for what they think is Good.

There will be those who'll be oblivious of the motif, oblivious of the enemy and oblivious of even friends. They would follow Jesus. They would follow Satan. They would follow anyone.

There will be those who'll rope in the docile. Sit behind facades mongering power. Shoot from someone else's shoulders. And retreat into dark when the day is done, only to reappear shamelessly next morning.

There will be those who will keep sitting on the fence, who'll keep cheering friend and foe alike. Waiting for the tide to take a decisive turn. And then hastily joining the winners.

And when the dust has settled on what was supposedly War between good and evil, it'll be time to lick our wounds and introspect. What were we fighting for - Good or Evil ? I'm not too sure. Sometimes I wonder who lost in the bargain. Was it them ? Or was it us ? Who was them ? Who was us ?

I think I know who lost.

It was Me. It always is Me.
