The Hurting Truth

The following was written post 26/11, the day The mighty Taj Hotel was struck by terror and how people from all walks of life, including Bollywood celebs, Biz tycoons and other biggies gathered together in processions...Good that it stirred the emotions of many but at the same time ironical that when a poor man is terrorized everyday by his own country people no one even bothers to hear his painful whimpers...He is ill'treated 'cause he is ought to be treated like that, we think...Why isn't there a support rally or massive contributions from these top-notches to the needy ones? Why can't we stand for them once with honesty unlike the vote-catchers? When the Nithari killings happened how many of us even bothered to raise our concerns, it was just media buzz that titillated our senses, we were moved only for a fraction of seconds...Mr Mallya bought Tipu Sultan's sword back owing to his endless fortune (read money) but what good did it do to those living below the poverty line? The other day a young lad was beaten black and blue for stealing a piece of 'ladoo' from a priest's 'pooja thaal'. A few months back a 13-year-old maid was physically abused by her high-profile 'model-cum-actor' employer...we all saw that on TV and just tut-tutted and moved on...

Thus the following piece expresses the haplessness and irony of the situation and the psuedo-attitude of us, the relatively better ones in society...

The age of darkness would never see its dawn, till we learn what has gone wrong.

Today they killed the silver and gold, making the copious voice so bold;

Who till now remained blind to the despair of those dead,

those very downtrodden, who had not enough to even earn their daily bread

Now when the bullet has hit the mighty and high,

they just won't sit back faking a sigh But of the memories not that distant and old, they were mere spectators with a heart so cold

The pain was no lesser, tears were as true, so how couldn't they shudder when the commoner was beaten black and blue?

The time is now to bridge the missing link, to shorten the gap by action and not merely ink

Let's stand for one and stand for all, 'cos together we can leap ahead but divided we can only crawl
