"Jis ki awaaz mein salwat hoo nigahon main shikan, Aaisee tasveer ke tukde nahi joda karte"

That was her favorite quote. She loved and respected Gulzar. My standoffish attitude towards poetry never let down her spirit. One fine day, she informed me that it was her birthday. I never understood the inviolability behind celebrations. But somewhere I remember the verses I heard before long "raat bhar bolate hain sannate, raat kaate ko kidhar tanhaa, din guzarata nahi hai logo mein, raat hoti nahin basar tanhaa"

True, it was out of context. But still I could see genuine laughter on her face. She got pepped up and enfolded me tight. That was the best birthday gift she had sofar.

Gulzar was gaining importance in my life. I keep on memorizing the poetry of Gulzar to see her smile. She smiles like a blooming bud. I could feel the fragrance and beauty.

Years after, I met her last week. She is married to a lawyer. I told her “He recites Gulzar verses for you?”

She did not answer. But silence spoke volume.

Why does the lady expect the lawyer to recite poem for her? What will it cost for the lawyer to recite a few verses for her? Irony – both does not happen.

Who told – “ Love, like a river will cut a new path when ever it meets an obstacle

Might be, good things of this sort remain as verses.

Boys are good as friend, brother, father or grand father. They are never husband material.
