Seven killed in bus accident in Karnataka

Haveri( Karnataka): Seven persons were killed while 40 others injured, six of them seriously, when a Mumbai-bound bus from Bangalore caught fire after hitting a road median in this north Karnataka district early today.


The National Travels' Volvo bus caught fire after hitting a divider, according to initial reports. The reports also indicated that the driver was over-speeding when the mishap took place.


The mishap occurred near Kunimelli bridge, about 14 kms from here, police said. The bodies of the victims are yet to be identified, Haveri SP Shashi Kumar said, adding that the Volvo bus with 52 people on board had left Bangalore last night.
