Today is Basant Panchami and Saroswoti Puja is celebrated today. Particularly in eastern India and mostly in West Bengal, this is celebrated with gaiety. All schools and colleges will celebrate this without fail. I have become a bit nostalgic going down the memory lane.This puja is being arranged by senior boys of the school mostly from std 11th and 12th. In our times we used to arrange it in a grand manner. We used to stay back at school itself previous night to make arrangements. Lunch was arranged for all students and guardians on the day of puja. That was a huge job. Almost 1200 to 1500 people were fed on that day. Menu was grand. Puri , alu dam bundia and chatni. On previous night we used to had our dinner in chemistry lab. Cooking of rice and mutton was done Bunsen burners available in lab. Those was the golden days of my life and I never forgot that. Most dreaded teacher was cooking the mutton and what a taste it was. I really miss those days a lot. Now only I can go down the memory lane and hope that my son can enjoy at least half of what we have enjoyed.
