The generation of 80s who are in their twenties is in a dilemma. The main problem to them is that they don't have role models whom they can look upon who has served the country. Not a single politicain or national leader worth emulating. The people who have nearly come being an icon are Sachin Tendulkar, Narayana Murthy and Abdul Kalam. But these people are only icon in their chosen fields of profession and yes they stand for a united India. But we don't have people like Subhash Chandra Bose, Gopalkrishna Gokhale, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Swami Vivekananda etc.. who were social reformers and statesmen. We have their life's history in front of us, but we don't have any men in flesh and blood who can be a leader like them.
There is not a single political leader in India behind whom the entire country will stand united. It is better not to discuss the oratory skills of our politicians.
The present generation is learning only to make money. They are driven by greed as all they see is people looting people. Corruption everywhere. Thanks to our politicains for the vote bank politics they are playing. The youth is further divided along caste and religion. Reservations in IIM and IIT have killed meritocracy. Many of our youth are migrating in search of greener pastures in absence of oppourtunities for them. No one has tried to inculcate the need for serving one's motherland.
I would say the movie Rang De Basanti showed this dilemma of the youth. True there are many migrating to greener pastures. But there are many like me who want to do something for the country but don't know where to start of how. The main issue is we don't trust the system. We don't know where our hard earned money will go.
We want to make a difference. But we need a leader who can help us make that difference. Anyone hearing.
