Risk of 'Delegate'

Well, those were the Early Days when I had Just started my Job after college. Making bread and butter by teaching computers and I was fascinated by them, Yes Just Like, You fascinate me', 'Garden Vareli' Advt. Most Marketing Guys would take my help to sort out technical details and sometimes would carry me along with them to present to the client, a technical guy to answer their simple queries. I was happy to accompany them for free rides and good food and of course get away from the mundane job of working in a cabin or class room delivering lectures.

On one such trip Keshav, one of the Marketing guy took me to a large GOI, undertaking in hope of doing some good deal with the company which had recently had just done a massive investment into some sophisticated computer software. I came to understand that this particular software was brought from our rival company to enhance the sales performance of the company. My job was to act as a consultant to help the marketing Team led by Keshav for networking support. The meeting was with the sales Director Mr. Ramana Rao, who would not let anyone talk for more than a minute. He got to take over as if the alarm had gone off. He asked our team if we would like to take a tour of the IT department and have a feel of this amazing software that was installed by our rival company.

Mr. Ramana Rao was very enthusiastic and acclaimed "It has amazing Capabilities", My Curiosity was aroused. Well in those days these software did give me a high. And I agreed for a guided tour by the Sales Director, as always keen to show an interest and help the team. All the while I forgot to take a look at Keshva's face.

We were duly were introduced to the new system, which was highly sophisticated and kept in a separate room with all the frills of a Computer system, Air conditioned, Bare footed, Sound proof. etc. I as usual, tried to impress Mr. Ramana Rao, with 'Ohhhed' and 'Aaahed' on my way through, hopefully in the most appropriate places. I doubt that from the looks of Keshav.

We were approaching the point where I was running out of exclamations and superlatives to use, when our host, Mr. Ramana Rao exclaimed 'And this is the one of the best bits of the whole system..."

Intrigued, I perked up again and leaned closer to the monitor to have a better look. He was pointing to a button on the screen which stood out as "Delegate". "What does that do?" I asked being the curious cat and hoping that I was going to be wrong in my anticipation of his highness's answer.

"Well", he said excitedly, "If I want to get rid of some really tedious work, I type it into he computer and then click this button 'Delegate' and puff it goes straight down the line to all of my sales team."

And he continued "Do you know the best bit? I don’t even have to see them face-to-face to do it."

At this point I refrained from comment and make an Ass of myself more than him. The Customer is always right, and he is a potential one after all, but consoled myself with the thought that presumably if the process was as easy as he mentioned, his sales team could just as easily delegate the whole thing back to him. I did hope they did so....

I always ponder what and how we did things before the advent of computers into our lives. Well we all know they can save us precious time to do better things, like posting this Dairy for you all to read. LoL. These Machines can help us in creativity and resourcefulness and help us in our learning process. Well After reading a few DPs on MS I can agree partly. LoL.

I did hear some say they can teach us how to relate to other people. Oops I may lose my Job Soon. Some said they can take the place of other people. Oh, I think I need to rewrite my resume.

But somehow after interacting with people like Ramana Rao I am not yet convinced of the last two statements. If we all think that human interaction is as easy as pushing and clicking buttons and mouse on computer, we all do that at our own Risk. I am Pondering will that day ever come?
