Hi Friends, Today I would like to share with all of you my deep feelings of regret and thoughts on the dangerous evil of ragging prevailing in our educational institutions. A few days back I read about the mindless and merciless killing of a 19 year old youth Aman Kachroo by his seniors in Himachal Pradesh, which is known for its splendid natural beauty and my myth that fanatic ragging can never occur in such peaceful regions got shattered with it and to add to it this incident happened in a medical college from where our society will get the future doctors who will serve us tomorrow and try to be our saviours, but some of the to be saviours of this college decided to become savages first and decided to commit savagery in a brutal way in the form of cruel ragging, ultimately killing Aman. Do we need such savage and brutal doctors in the future to serve our society? It is surprising to note that such heinous acts of ragging are committed many times in various institutions, in spite of the Supreme Court orders abolishing it in every form. Who is liable for all this? Who is at fault? The college administration or the students committing it? Whatever the case may be but these fanatic and cruel acts are snatching away the lives of aspiring youngsters and their families are left devastated and traumatized due to the irreparable loss they have to suffer for the rest of their life.
The young, sincere and hard working youths referred to as “juniors” come to these institutions with goals to achieve, dreams to fulfill and their upcoming careers to flourish but many of them are harassed by these pseudo-intellectual goons who call themselves as “seniors” without actually knowing the responsibilities and the true meaning of a “senior”. They act like Gods of these institutions mostly un-interested in studying but are always well ahead in harassing the innocent students who come here for obtaining sincere education. These senior goons with the sole motive of harassing others form their own groups and leave no stone unturned in harassing the un-suspicious and innocent aspirants who are still new to the conditions and surroundings of the institution and instead of helping them to adapt to the surroundings what they do is harass them to the core. Ragging did exist in our times, too, but in our times it was just simple and pure inoffensive fun meant for knowing each other nicely and to make friends with. But with the passage of time this activity has become fanatic, atrocious and dastardly. It has grown in to a dangerous inexplicable passion for many who treat others as trash, play with their lives and dash the hopes of many young aspirants.
I hereby strongly condemn, oppose and object to all these heinous and shameless acts of ragging and would like our supreme court to take the strictest and stringent measures to curb this growing menace as the steps that it has taken till now have proved futile and it’s high time they take more serious and stringent measures to avoid losing of more innocent lives in the future. The administration of the institutions should also keep a tab on ragging and crush it wherever they see it flourishing and should monitor and stop such activities from happening in their campuses. Every institution must form a policy to rusticate the offending students caught in such acts and handover them to the lawful authorities who should see that the strictest penalty and punishment is meted out for such goons which would convey a strong message and a strict lesson for all those trying to indulge and involve in such atrocious activities which claim innocent lives and ruin families.
My heart goes out to the family of Aman, who got killed in this dastardly act. May God give strength to his parents to bear the irreparable loss and May God rest Aman”s soul in peace.
Peace, tranquility and equality to all.
