pop up ads

The pop up ad appearing on MOUTHSHUT site is apt for the name of the site. It serves more than that - it shuts not only the mouth but all action too....and whoever has thought that one could promote a product by disturbing the prospective customer and putting him/her through the painful agony of waiting IS PAINFULLY WRONG. If the popup hurts me as a user, then it hurts you too....How can a buyer be different from a seller..both have their right to privacy..

The pop up AD of same Smirnoff is on another site indiatimes.com...But there, it does not stop you from proceeding with your work, and you can choose to ignore the AD. And most important, it pops up only on home page, not on subsequent pages. WERE THE MS team fooled by the popup ad company into accepting unrealistic terms ??? Looking at the ad popping up at all subsequent clicks too, I feel so.

If I were to do an advt to promote something, a popup AD will be a definite NO NO... Corporates would pay money to try out any fancy methods, if it clicks, fine.....else, they will try the next trick...But I believe social neworking sites like MS should be adopting other means of revenue generation than these detested popup ADs. The pitfalls of this far outweigh the merits. I only hope that the MS management realises this.

Faisal and team may not accept this theory, but that does not stop me from keeping on trying.
