We found our bus in the parking lot and settled down once again the same way we had in the morning. I was feeling suddenly tired now that the euphoria of the trip was over. I guessed everybody was feeling the same because nobody was talking much now.
Once the bus started its journey back to Delhi, Papa turned in his seat and addressed everybody, “We will stop for dinner in a couple of hours. If all goes well, we should reach Delhi before midnight.” There were tired murmurs of assent and then all went quiet.
I closed my eyes and tried to relax. Though I was physically tired my mind was in overdrive. I went through the last two days in my head. So much had changed – Tutu was a new man now, Sanju had a secret girlfriend, Chacha-Chachi’s marriage was on the rocks.
Tomorrow Masa-Masi and Tutu will leave. And Sanju will drop his bomb. Inspite of my apprehensions I had a gut feeling that Sanju’s plan will work – not only will Chacha-Chachi’s differences get resolved but they will also accept Sarah. They were going to stay in India for a full month. A lot can happen in that time. Not to forget that Dadi is capable of working miracles. Yes, for good or bad, things were going to change some more.
My thoughts were interrupted by Chachi’s voice, “Why don’t you close the windows? It is so cold!”
“Cold?!” exclaimed Masi, “I am feeling so warm!”
I couldn’t help smiling to myself. Some things never change.
The End
