Personally I hate multiplexes. First thing you have to pay almost thrice the money for ticket, twice the money for snacks and you don't get anything extra from the movie...
What extra am I expecting?
Well that extra is nothing but the interesting comments from audience. As I am very used to local theater viewing where all kind of comments are passed, I do feel very boring and waste of money in multiplexes. And if the movie is pakautypes then you do require these comments because in that case the comments are only source of entertainment.
These commentators mostly sit in the first 4-5 rows of the theater. So to make most of it I always take a ticket just behind these rows and I keep a close watch on comments than the movie. I remember watching movie some movie in which there was a fight scene between hero and villain. Our hero is holding the head of villain, putting his head in/out of water and asking him "Bata teja, mere baap ko kisne maara..."..Again he puts his head in water "Bata teja, mere baap ko kisne maara... aahhh"...this continues for 2-3-4 times and some one really irritated shouted from first row "Ab bus bhi karo puncture mil gaya hoga..." Laughter in the theater.
Well see the difference, even an irritating fight sequence can be made interesting. All thanks to first row viewers. Is this kind of entertainment possible with so called sophisticated audience in multiplex? It’s just like the difference of watching a cricket match at Lords and Wankhede Stadium Mumbai. White collar people clapping OR shouting and screaming people what will you enjoy the most? Choice is yours!!!
First row people are very talented too...They make parody of songs in a jiffy. Remember the bhutiamovie Raaz? It had a song "ye sheher hai aman kaa...yaha ki fiza hai niraali....yaha pe sab shanti shanti hai..."...Some one from first row made its parody and whole hall was singing "Ye sheher hai aman kaa...aman ke pitaji niraale...aman ki maa shani shanti hai.." Even after coming out of theater I have singing the parody.
They (the first row audience) are present not only there in movie theaters but also at some local plays. There was a classical music play going on. And the lady actress was singing "Banke balma ne baiyya marodi....Banke balma ne baiyya marodi....Banke balma ne baiyya marodi...."...that how the classical music goes. A scream from audiance "Ab hath tod doge kya??"
That's the real entertainment. Bollywood movies are same old stories. Romance, action and Drama that’s it. But these audiences make the movie good to watch (or bear).
So if you want real ROI from a movie go to a local theater. "Long live local theaters...and its audience"
