Meetings - Talk Less & Believe In Actions

A meeting is an event where minutes are taken & hours are wasted (James T. Kirk)

I have been attending many meeting professionally & personally from past several weeks. Recently I attended the sixth Meetings Conventions & Events Conclave (MICE) at the Hotel Lalit Ashok ‘Come together in Karnataka’. I am getting bored of meetings, only talks & no actions or implementations. We all have read the talkative tortoise story; this is one of the interesting & inspiring stories from Panchatantra.

I remember another very funny but interesting TV serial, Jaspal Bhatti’s Ulta Pulta, where there is a corporate meeting for several hours & after the meeting the concerned authorities are very happy about the outcome & the outcome is the date has been finalized for the next meeting.

I am not against meetings but just sitting in a class room we can’t learn swimming unless we jump into the water. There’s a saying, in hard work there is always something gained, but idle talk leads only to poverty. Happier People Spend Less Time on Small Talk & believe in actions.

With proper planning meetings can be very productive if not they are just waste of time & money. Unfortunately, though many people use the words, very few know what it will take to implement these things in their organizations. One has to make the right decision when and when not to hold a meeting. Generally meetings are a time to learn and learning is not talking, it's about listening.

"People who enjoy meetings should be in charge of anything "(Thomas Sowell)
