Jhanda Uuncha Rahe Hamara…
No this is not to bombard You with words on patriotic fervor. In Andhra Paradesh one political outfit gave call for and did unfurl a regional flag (yes you are aware of the turmoil in AP) along side and ON PAR with the revered National Flag . This has drawn the attention of one and all to the issue of the rights and wrongs about the National Flag which symbolizes the pride of the nation.
Every citizen is duty bound to learn and understand the ways and means of dealing with the tricolour. The treatment of the flag is well laid out in Flag code which can be downloaded.
Any misuse or ill treatment of the flag can lead to serious implications (including a maximum of three years of imprisonment) as per .Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.
A few tips :
Know that the flag has to be 3:2 in ratio.
The flag size is permitted in only NINE dimensions with the largest being 6300mmx 4200mm and the smallest being 150 mm x 100 mm
Only a few defined dignitaries can have unfurled flag on their cars.
The flag even then has to be on the RHS of the car or middle and never on the left.
The flag has to be lowered (removed) after sunset and cannot be unfurled except after sunsrise.
The flag cannot be used like a table cloth, decoration, festoon etc After one Jindal’s litigation 2001 the flag rules have been liberalized for enabling common citizens to use it but a lot of caution is to be exercised.
Look before you handle the flag, afterall anyone who respects himself shall learn to respect national symbols.
Best Wishes ….. JAI HIND
