Year 2012 saw videos on YouTube and pictures on Twitter and Facebook that became phenomenal. These videos and pics were so addictive that netizens just couldn’t stop themselves from retweeting, liking or revisiting the site. Here is a list of five such internet contents that went viral this year.


Gangnam Style


A chubby looking South Korean guy doing a crazy horse-riding dance moves became an internet sensation this year. Rapper PSY’s Gangnam Style video on YouTube got around 220 million hits and counting.


The video has since become the most watched video on YouTube as of November 2012. And it’s easy to say why. No Korean language skills are required to enjoy the crazy dance and the chorus of the song.

Grandfather dresses up as model


This Chinese grandfather, who is 72 and a figure than can make a female supermodel go jealous appeared online posing for his granddaughter’s online retail store.


Seventy two year old Liu Xianping posed in outfits from his granddaughter fashion store Yuekou and won worldwide fame. He modeled women`s clothes for a joke, but his joke fast became a successful publicity campaign after the images went global and help increase his granddaughters business.


Obama hugs Michelle


Barack Obama hugging wife Michelle after winning his second term as the US president became viral on the internet this year. This image became the most shared picture in the history of Twitter, beating out teen sensation Justin Bieber and the fast-food chain Wendy’s. It`s also the most-liked photograph ever to be shared on Facebook, amassing almost 4.5 million “likes” since Election Day.


The photographer, Scout Tufankjian, says it captures the Obamas’ “deep love and respect for one another.”

Kony 2012


This video was posted to show the conflict in Uganda and fasten the arrest of Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) leader Joseph Kony by an NGO called Invisible Children.


With more than 100 million views in six days, Kony 2012 became the most viral video in history.


McKayla Not Impressed!


American gymnast McKayla Maroney after winning the silver medal in the vault finals was photographed on the medal podium while giving a brief look of disappointment with her lips pursed to the side. The image quickly became an Internet meme that was sparked by a tumblr blog called "McKayla is not impressed".


She met President Barack Obama at the White House in November 2012 where she and Obama posed for a photo together, both making the same pursed-lips expression.
