A friend of mine was working for a German pharmaceutical company called Hoechst (known brands like Baralgan) and pronounced as Hext. He was based at Patiala and was covering Punjab.
During one of his visit to a small village in Punjab, he visited a chemist and introduced himself as Sharma from Hext (which is the right pronunciation of Hoechst).
To this chemist replied with unwelcome gesture – which company is this? Never heard before. When my friend mentioned the known brands, his behavior changed and remarked oh! Ho – Chest, if an educated person like you cannot pronounce the name correctly then who would do it.
My friend had learnt the lesson. So when he visited another chemist, he introduced himself as Sharma from Ho-Chest. To this customer remarked that if the company representative cannot pronounce Hext then whom do you expect to say it correctly.
