There is always some good in every situation; all you have to do is look for it. I too was keenly but helplessly watching the situation at Mumbai. I did see posts being posted about media coverage, about the anger simmering in all of us, anger against the terrorists, anger for our helplessness, anger at Govt and its policies, name calling.... and many more Prayers.
I generally keep away from commenting in these situations for personal reasons. But at times I do get carried away and let out what I genuinely feel about our Country. But indeed this time, I have seen changes emerging from the way we reacted.
Probably for the first time in the history of Independent India, deviating from its Policy of appeasement of terrorists in every hostage situation, Indian Government refused to negotiate with terrorists during this Mumbai terror Attacks.
India does have has a bad record in these kind of hostage situations. In 1989 during the abduction of Rubaiyya Sayeed, whose father Mufti Mohammed Sayeed was home minister allowed terrorist in exchange of Rubaiyya Sayeed.
During the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Plane IC-814, India gave in to demands of Pakistani terrorists actively supported by Taliban. In exchange of the Plane and 300 Passengers, India released three highly dangerous terrorists — Masood Azhar, Mushtaq Zargar and Omar Sheikh.
Masood Azhar went on to create Jaish-e-Mohammed and Omar Sheikh who killed US journalist Daniel Pearl.
India seems to have learned its lessons by looking at the records of countries like US, Israel, Russia, Germany and others which have refused to negotiate with terrorists even though the terrorists held hostages.
In recent years, there has been a spate of attacks on increase, like the Parliament Attack, Akshardham temple, Raghunath temple, Jaipur Blasts, Hyderabad Blasts, Varanasi Blasts, Mumbai Train Blast and many more. India has learnt some lessons from these attacks.
This resilience not to negotiate with terrorists for ransom or for the hostages stood for test during the Mumbai attacks and We did succeed in spite of the great Loss of human lives. This is a small amount that we need to pay, but proves a point that "We Shall NOT NEGOTIATE".
I do hope India Continues with this Policy, shows that India is a Stronger Nation and that is what we Indians appear to be to the “Terror World”. NO Negotiation.By doing so we indeed will pay homage to all those lives lost in these terror attacks.
