This Week's Topic: PHAS GAYA!

Last Friday, Mehbooba hit the theatres. The movie was shot years back and had to face many obstacles to get a theatrical release. When it finally release, very few turned up to watch it and thus, the movie was declared a flop. Like Mehbooba, there are many films which are made years back but don’t get a release. And when these movies finally see the light of the day, it’s not able to make a decent collection at the BO even though the product may be nice. Nehlle Pe Dehlla, Mr Black Mr White, etc are some of the recent examples.

There are many reasons as to why a movie gets stuck. Sometimes, distributors don’t like the product due to many reasons; or the producer or director meets an unexpected death (like it happened during the movie Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai); or the actor are unavailable to give dates for one of the schedules for the movie. There are many such other reasons.

There are several such flicks which are stuck up. Here are some of them:

ZAMAANAT: I am waiting for this movie since a long time. It has an interesting storyline: Amitabh Bachchan plays the role of Shivshankar, a blind advocate who fights the case of Suraj (Arshad Warsi) who is framed in a murder case. The film also has Karishma Kapoor. Of course, the film is an old one and looks like Arshad had signed it even before Munnabhai! The film was set to release last year in March but was postponed indefinitely and still not released. I would love to see this one.

AMAVAS: The film has an interesting poster (check the pic). It has a wonderful cast, comprising of Mahesh Manjrekar, Konkona Sen Sharma, Tara Sharma and Victor Banerjee. Yet for some reason, the film has failed to release, even though it is ready since a long time. From the picture, it looks like an interesting supernatural flick.

MOHABBAT HO GAYI HAI TUMSE: Starring Sanjay Dutt, Shamita Shetty, Chandrachur Singh; this film is one of the many Sanjay Dutt’s movies which are stuck though they are ready for release. I remember vividly the promos used to come on TV 3 years back. Shamita’s dance number ‘Saiyoni’ used to be aired on TV and was frequently played on radio for 2-3 weeks. The film looks like an old wine in new bottle (similar to Mehbooba) and doesn’t seem it would find any audience even though it gets a release.

BEACH: Beach looks like a sex-flick with skin show and stars Sanjay Kapoor and Hrishita Bhatt. The director is Dilip Sood, who made Choodon Naa Yaar. The film if market properly, can do decent collections especially from frontbenchers-dominated theatres! Check out its poster: https://indiafm.com/movies/fstills/12693/index.html

CHAL CHALA CHAL: This one looks interesting. It has Govinda and Rajpal Yadav in leading roles and also has Reema Sen. Both Govinda and Rajpal are terrific entertainers and if the film has correct script and humour, then it can prove as a wonderful entertainer. Take a look at its posters: https://indiafm.com/movies/fstills/13444/index.html

CHOORIYAN: It stars Gracy Singh and Sudhanshu Pandey. Sudhanshu is an army officer and Gracy is his wife and Sudhanshu dies in a battle-that’s what the storyline seems from its poster and the promos (which used to come on TV 2 years back). The movie may be nice but hardly anyone will turn up for it if it gets a release.

EK SE BURE DO:From the title itself, one can guess that it’s a laugh riot. And it has an interesting cast too-Arshad Warsi and Rajpal Yadav in leading roles! But the poster of the movie looks dated (https://indiafm.com/movies/fstills/7242/index.html) and that’s why the movie may be a flop even though it gets a release.

FROZEN: This film has done rounds of many leading film festivals of the world but somehow isn’t getting a release in India. It stars Danny Denzogpa, Yashpal Sharma, Raj Zuthshi and even Shilpa Sukhla (Bindia Naik of Chak De! India). The film is about a family living peacefully in the Himalayas and how their lives turn upside down when the Indian Army finds a frozen death body in their region. Danny is said to have given a fantastic performance, but the film is criticized as it’s dragging and slow.
