Beware of Stappled note bundles

I recently had to debit some money into my ICICI account and had a couple of bundled notes of denomination 50 and 100. I had put the money in the money bag provided by ICICI and was waiting for the amount to be debited to my account. I received a call from ICICI staff saying that there were 15 mutilated notes in one of my 100 Rs. bundle. They showed me a video grab to prove that it was from my money bag and the bundle belonged to me.

The point here is that I had recieved these bundles from someone and on seing the banks slip on the bundles I just checked to see if the bundles had 100 notes or not. But in the bank bundles the mutilated notes were so carefully placed that it would not be noticed untill you remove the rubberband and staple on one side.

There were fifteen 100 Rs. notes of which

8 notes were only 3/4 in length and obviously did not have the number on the other side.

1 note had the rest 1/4th substituted by a 5 Rs. note

A couple more there was just a transperent sheet pasted to make it to full length and a few

burnt and cut notes that were not acceptable to the bank either.

The person who gave me the bundle says that I should have not only counted the notes but also should have inspected them indiviudally that seems stupid though as it was not possible when you were to receive large sum of money.

One learning though:

Never accept stapled bundle of currency.

Check twise to ensure the currency has both the sides.

Any suggestions on how I can exchange those currencies most of them are 3/4 th of lenth of normal 100Rs and does not have the currency number on one side. ?
