Astrologically Speaking...

Hi Guys, Do you believe in astrology and what the stars foretell? I guess most of us do, in a wishful manner of speaking....that hey, it cant do much harm. Dekh lete hain....kuch accha ho jaaye tho theek hai...nain tho...doesnt matter.

Used to be an astrology buff....read the newspaper columns religiously with Peter Vidal and Bejan Daruwalla (Ganesha Says) being my favorites. Then one day a few years ago.....I happened to buy one of those whole-year weekly forecast booklets at a railway platform when I was browsing some other books and periodicals. I dont want to name the person who had written the booklet, but I got a rude shock when I compared it with the weekly column in a famous newspaper written by the same chap. It was totally different. I said to myself...how can a guy be at variance with himself unless he is talking crap? That put me off newspaper forecasts for a long while.

Then a traumatic incident....sent me packing to an astrologer to try and find meaning in the shit happening all around my life. What he told me stunned me with the accuracy with which various incidents and turning points in my life were highlighted. The guy could have virtually written my biography! Told me things from my past which he would have had no way of knowing and told me things from the future which of course I will know only in the years ahead, but the lucidity surprised me and the accuracy made me question my existing cynicism on the subject of astrology.

I came to the conclusion that astrology is not a farce per se, but not every astrologer knows what he is talking about and hence such half-cocked astrologers give the profession and the field a bad name. This is a never ending topic. I guess the last word on the subject has not been spoken. I also realise that our belief systems are biased by our own experiences good or bad. How scientifc it is, I have no way of ascertaining....but if it works, hey great, it works.
