Appreciation ?

We humans are known tobe supreme to other creatures, this being my 100th diary post, I am dedicating this to all humans, who alongwith their faults will still rule over others.

We as human love tobe appreciated. The craving for appreciation is never ending, maybe it goes to the extent of being an addiction. According to some Psychologists, people who do not get any or very little appreciation get bouts of depression. There are people who go beyond their limits to get some kind of appreciation, at times becoming irresponsible or not bothering about the consequences arising thereafter.

This is a story, my sister used to tell me when I was a kid. I don’t know whether this story is her own or she had read it somewhere. I don’t even know why I suddenly remembered it but I would like to share it with you all.

In a small town, there lived a woman named Rajni, along with her husband Shankar and a small son Raja. They were a happy and a prosperous family. Rajni was a very nice woman, very beautiful and good natured, but she had a great fault ( I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have a fault in her/him) in her , she wanted tobe appreciated whole time. Many people who knew this habit went on appreciating her and extracted many favours and gifts from her in exchange of appreciation. Her husband was very sick of this habit of hers, as this had resulted in dwindling of their fortunes.

One day Rajni, bought four beautiful gold bangles, she showed them to her husband. Her husband was busy packing as he had to go to neighbouring town on some urgent business, so he just glanced at them without a word and said goodbye to her. Whole day she was waiting for someone to come and appreciate her bangles but to her dismay, no one came to her that day.

Towards the evening she started feeling depressed and started making plans to sought appreciation. She suddenly had an idea, she sent her son to play with the neighbour. She poured kerosene on the walls and some wooden sticks used to light the fireplace, she started a big fire. She started crying aloud that her house had caught fire and people flocked around her house to douse the fire. She stopped every passerby and kept pointing very animatedly towards the fire, hoping that someone will notice her new bangles. By the time the Fire Brigade arrived from another bigger town, the house was burned to cinders. Still no one noticed her new bangles.

Somebody informed her husband and he came back in a rush. He asked her, the cause of fire. She was now crying aloud saying that she had burnt her house, so that at least people will notice her bangles when she repeatedly pointed towards the fire. She was still lamenting about her bangles going unnoticed and lack of appreciation on parts of others. Her husband was very furious with her, as they had lost everything they had and now were reduced to being homeless and paupers.

The message I wish to convey is, One should crave for appreciation only till it motivates you positively but do not go to extremes , do not let your life revolve around it.

As I was extremely busy, I apologise to my friends for not reading/commenting on their reviews and diaries.
