A koel and a crow were the best of friends.

They often sang together. The crow couldn't match up to his friend's magical voice. In fact, its voice drew the neighbours crazy.

When they coudn't take anymore, they decided to warn him.

'Sing one more time, and you'll be thrashed'.

The crow kept silent for days. The koel bird sensed his emotions, and asked him to practise everyday, at a place where no one resides.

The crow found a building in ruins, in a nearby town. With Koel's assistance, he started singing.

Koel gave him all the necessary tips on good singing and using the vocal cords in the right manner.

Gradually his voice became better. But it was still far from good. Koel didn't bother to look at the loopholes though. She continuously urged him to sing better.

'I cannot improve the way I sing. No matter how much I try, I cannot be a good singer. This is how my voicals were designed'

But Koel didn't give up. Morning, day and afternoon, she gave eveything she could to help him get better. However, in the process, her own voice became weak and shaky. She couldn't sing properly anymore. She was struggling.

The crow could finally sing. He was very happy.

BIRD IDOL contest was not very far away. The crow gained enough confidence to participate. 'Cmon let's go together', he said at the day of the auditions.

'I do not think I have the energy or the stamina to sing, my friend' she said, her voice trembling. 'But you should go ahead. I'm sure you'll be able to impress'.

So our crow decided to look his best that day. He applied sufficient make-up and cologne. He was very presentable when he faced the judges.

The musicians and lyricist judges were impressed by the complete package, and gave him the ticket to come to the Corbett National Park. He had got the opportunity to win the BIRD IDOL contest.

Meanwhile the koel returned to her shelter in her forest. It hadn't been a good day for her. She was very low on spirits. To liven herself up, she began to sing.

'Ohh its that stupid crow again, he won't learn from our threats' one of the neighbours cried. 'let's give him a heavy beating'.

The Koel bird was beaten up badly, and thrown out of the neighbourhood. Lying in a pool of her own blood, she died a day later, succumbing to her injuries.

Meanwhile the crow went on to win the sixth BIRD IDOL contest. Rumours have it that all the television watching crows had voted for him.
