Matheran - a truly lovely place near to Mumbai. From Mumbai CSTstation, the local train goes on the Central Line to Karjat. Get downat Neral, a small station on the way to Karjat by local train and getin to the mini train, called toy train which takes hardly an hour toreach up to the top on the Matheran hills. Matheran hills are a part ofthe Sahayadri hills range in Maharashtra in India.
There are wonderful sights in Matheran, awsome and breathtaking.
There are a few hotels there but I do not think it is absolutelynecessary to stay onvernight. One can go early morning and return toMumbai by late evening. Moving around in Matheran on horse is wonderfulexperience. There are many restaurants in Matheran, serving Punjabi andSouth Indian foods. The food cooked is very nice.
All in all for one or two days of relaxation, away from all the noise,pollution go to Matheran. If you cannot get toy train due to somereasons, there are taxis plied between the station and atop the hill.
It is recommeded for the people of all categories including the olderones, as there are horses available in one is finding it difficult towalk.
