One word on Jurm---INTERESTING! Seriously there is nothing a maker can do with B-rated and C-rated actors plus average promotion plus strong opposition at the BO. And what gets worse is the critics hammering the movie since the very first day with no word of mouth. However this helps the viewer of the idiot box. If a person didn't go to the theater after all the above mentioned short comings, they wait for the DVD to come out with hardly any expectations. But as soon as they watch it on DVD, the product rises a notch above its reviews---all thanks to the negative publicity of so called movie buffs like Taran Adarsh who would give Kaal a fourstar rating (hahahahahahahahahahahahah!)
Jurm is a thriller that makes sense. No wonder it has a lot of sources of inspiration but there is no denying that there are minimal mishaps in the movie. The director makes the movie a simple thriller with many of his moves being predictable but at least in the process he delivers great music (Meri Chaahaton ka samundar and Nazrein teri Nazrein being two awesome songs), decent performances, and an almost flawless screenplay. As a matter of fact Fida had a few mishaps in being unconventional and that's where Jurm is so different....it remains conventional and predictable but it gives the viewer no chance to complain. Thus Jurm by no means is extra-ordinary but it certainly becomes a movie with dignity which is hard to trash as the so called critics did! I know movies like Hungama, Masti, Kya Kool Hain Hum, etc are of higher quality entertainment for the public but how people preferred Bewafaa, Shabd, Elaan, etc. over the movie is a plain SHOCK! Might be thanks to the so-called CRITICS!
Now for the performances...Lara Dutta looks awesome but hams as usual when it comes to acting. She is restricted to yelling and screaming in all her movies with her favorite dialogue being Ahhhhhhhhh! One of the reviewer on mouthshut here said she is the future #1 but I am sorry thats just a bull of a prediction...its unlikely to happen with priyanka, amrita rao, and a brigade of talented and upcoming actresses ready to overshadow this former miss universe. How one wonders Lara gets out of her make up mode into her performance mode like in Masti and Andaaz---two of her only comprehensive hits I guess! Milind Soman is adequate...the guy shows that he doesn't have the extraordinary touch to go to the top and he doesn't try to go over the top either. All he tries is to be decent and adequate in his role and he does succeed at that. By the way, Milind looks suave and fit even at his age of around forty which many actors fail at doing. Gul Panag retains her confidence and talent post Dhoop by giving a decent performance in a limited role. How one wished she had more role! But the guy who expectedly steals the show is Bobby Deol. Undoubtedly one of my favorites, Bobby delivers a performance that a viewer easily takes with himself once the movie is over. However the very reason why Bobby isn't in the elite list of Bollywood heroes is because of his choice of movies---he has continuously featured in thrillers coz he says the public likes him in them---but how much Bobby? Gupt, Soldier, Ajnabee, Humraaz---how many more hits do u want from thrillers? Its good to see u perform wonderfully in them but its about time u follow one of your interview statements of slightly changing the genre and entering the family/comedy entertainers. You might be welcomed with open arms by all audiences in doing so. Best of luck to you and everyone associated with Jurm coz by no means did you people deliver a nonsense thriller like KAAL!
