Story:

This must be the worst book that Stephen King has written! The way the story starts it has the promise of an exciting, unconventional suspense thriller.

But that promise is never fulfilled. We excrutiating plod ahead with a sluggish storyline, hoping for the pieces to fall into place. Well that hope is never fulfilled! The storyline is incoherent and badly integrated. There are just too many gaps in the story.

Undoubtably we get glimpses of King's brilliance at times, but they are unfortunately short lived. It's a long book and when you finally somehow manage to finish it you end up feeling that you've been cheated!

King has said that when he wrote this book he was in recuperation. The book shows symptoms of his sickness. Every horror and mystery writer uses those stomach churning moments that make you feel sick (Stephen King even more so!).

In Dreamcatcher such moments are in abundance, however they are not necessary part of the plot. Such moments in this book seem more to be put there for the effect, or maybe as a reflection of the sickness that the author was himself feeling at the time. Whatever be the reason, I felt the book did not do justice to the name "Stephen King". We all expected a lot better from him!
