Many years ago, my sister told me that if I ever started drinking diet soda, I would like it better than regular.
I didn't really believe her; I'd tasted the stuff and it was SO bad! But when I ballooned up to size 14, I decided I had to do something to get my weight under control.
Coke's diet equivalent then was called Tab and when I first started drinking it, I could barely choke it down. But I kept at it, determined to learn to like it.
Sure enough, within a week, I couldn't tell the difference. Within two weeks, I preferred the taste of diet Tab to regular Coke. I soon got my husband hooked on it as well.
Always a creature of habit, when Coke introduced Diet Coke and announced that it would replace Tab, I was very irritated. Why mess with a good thing? I bought up as much Tab as I could store in
my house, but eventually it ran out and I had to try Diet Coke. Within a couple of days, I found that I liked it even better than Tab.
I wish when all this started I had just started drinking water; it's healthier, I know. But now I find myself carrying around a Diet Coke everywhere I go and everything I do. Even if it goes flat, I
continue drinking it. It's not just the caffeine, either. I often drink the caffeine-free version and love it just as well. My only real problem with it is it's SO EXPENSIVE! Supply and demand, I guess.
In the past couple of years I've made it a mission to find a comparable generic diet cola that I like, and I have found two here in Georgia, USA, where I live.
Kroger Stores has an excellent Diet Cola at around 1/3 the price of Diet Coke brand. Also, Sam's Club and Wal-Mart have very good diet colas. I like either of these as well as Diet Coke and usually always
buy them for home use. But when I choose a restaurant, I will pick one that carries Diet Coke as opposed to Diet Pepsi every time. If they only serve Pepsi products, I usually order water.
And I don't tease that I'd take it intravenously, I love the taste too much!
