Delhi is a cosmopolitan city and the capital of the largest democratic country in the world, India. It has been fought for and conquered by many rulers, built and destroyed the same number of times, due to its strategic location. Known as Indraprastha in historic times, historians claim, that it has been built from ground up seven times during different ages. Old and New Delhi, exists side by side; A clear reflection of modern world solidifying with the traditions in remarkable manner.

Delhi has 5,000 years of tumultuous and glorious history, marked with the rise and fall of many emperors. It was traditionally credited to be the capital of the  Pandavas, the heroes of Mahabharata.

The recorded history of Delhi only came into existence when Aryans arrived from Central Asia, followed by many other tribes later on. Delhi lies close to the Yamuna flood plains and ridges, and abundantly fertile Indo-Gangetic plains.

The modern Delhi was built by Tomara Rajputs in 8th Century, and was defeated by Prithviraj Chauhan, the last ruler of his dynasty. The British also sought Delhi and in 1911, fifty years later, announced Delhi the capital of India.

Delhi is the political centre of the country that manages and maintains the legal parliamentary core for all the governing bodies. There are many historical sites and monuments in Delhi as well. Qutub Minar, was declared world heritage monument by UNESCO. It is the tallest monument in India, with Indo-Islamic style of architecture, reflecting a mannerly fusion of cultures. Red Fort, in Delhi, is another example of Mughal architecture. It is made from red sandstone and is a magnificent structure.

Since Delhi is a cosmo city people from many states arrive here on a daily basis for job opportunities. Over the years, the population has become a hybrid of different people and many cultures. This can be seen in their cuisine and lifestyle.
