Having recently moved to Mumbai, I was in urgent need of a mobile phone (with 3G) connection. I visited the Vodafone store in Peninsula Corporate Park, Lower Parel, where I clearly explained that I was in temporary accommodation and had no proof of address for Mumbai. The guy assured (why didn't I note his name?) me that it wouldn't be a problem, as long as I was present at the provided address at the time of verification (I provided my ID proof which was my driving license with my Delhi address). He did not clearly explain the plans to me and just hurriedly handed me some postpaid crap (NO explanations about billing etc. were given).
Since it was urgent, I didn't pay much attention either (read...TRUSTED the guy). Verification happened smoothly at the guest house I was putting up at (the address I provided, albeit without proof), but the next day, the number was disconnected because I hadn't submitted "all my documents." I was misled into believing that my ID proof (which had Delhi address) would work...but it clearly didn't. They took advantage of my urgent need and lack of attention to detail. I have had bad experiences with billing and unresponsive customer care in the past, when I resided in Delhi several years ago.
I wouldn't recommend Vodafone to my enemies.
