My experience about this is wrost because I use this last week and it has a few problems that is sometimes it doesn't recognise any file in your phone and shows that your phone hasn't any video file to play another is sometimes it does not recognise the file format of video file therefore it does not play it but MX player is good enough as compared to vlc media player .The size is also matter the size of vlc media player is much more than the size of mx player therefore delay in downloading as compared to mx player and sometimes when I play a video song than after the half of the song play it shows a message that vlc media player not responding so my opinion is you should go for the mx player for Android.
