Den Haag is a city that I like. We visited Den Haag again, last summer. Round Central Station, there are a lot renewals to be seen, and you’ll have to watch out, to find the right direction. If you don’t, you’ll walk a few miles for nothing.
From Central Station, we took the main entrance, and walked to the inner city. (go left…you’ll find signs in black and gold, pointing you the right direction)
There sure is a lot to be seen in Den Haag, for example the Houses of Parliament, and the most impressive building there: de Ridderzaal. You can take a guided tour there, if you like.
We watched the Wilhelmina fountain, and made some pictures there.
Our goal was, to visit the Museum of Communication, (Zeestraat), it is an informative museum, where you can do things, and that is also fun for the kids. En route, you’ll pass another museum: Het Mauritshuis, and the Cabinet of the Queen (Kabinet van de Koningin).
Impressive are the statues of important people in our history: Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, and Willem I, to name a few… On the way, you can see the palace where the Dutch Queen normally is working. If her flag is on top, the Queen is in her palace… (Palace Noordeinde)
A large house, (if you are standing in front of the gate, on the left), is the house of the Dutch Crown Prince. (Noordeinde 66).
While walking this touristy route, and so much to be seen, we have noticed that we spent more than an hour sight seeing, as we finally reach the museum.
It sure is fun, for the kids. The history of 200 years Dutch Post can be seen, there, and also the history of telephones, faxes, and the new media (Internet and new satellite communication methods for ships). Our kids liked to see, touch and do things, and we spent a large part of our afternoon there.
We ended our day, with a Happy Meal, and took the train back home…
