I have used Tata Photon for 4 months now & my experience has been absolute pathetic as most of you in the beginning. When I realized that Tata Cust Care will never help, I decided to use Google Chacha to leverage some of the geek tactics available in the Net. Believe me, It has been worth it.
Many of you might have already tried it but it has worked for me :)
I suggest this method for Unlimited plan only as we want more speed w/o limit of usage
Set a system restore point
Search for "TCP optimizer" in google. Download & run it ( does not need installation). Set the dropdown as optimal & speed as 500kbps - 1mbps, click apply & it will need a reboot

I have experienced speed doubled. You may have to repeat this for 2-3 times & speed will be increased for sure. Now after may trials, I have got the max speed of 1.2 mbps which is not bad during day time. Worth the try
Reason why this works : Tata photon software & driver does not set the registry to optimal levels . So we get even less speed than device can deliver.
Note : I advise to try this only on your personal PC's as it involves tweaking registry
