Bus in the Sky. Review on Simplifly Deccan

Lots of reviews, on the much maligned Air Deccan.

We want to pay rates of long distance bus operators or Indian railways and expect top class service. My view is look up on Air Deccan as a transport company and not as an airline. There are 6 hour delay in our trains we accept it, trains get rescheduled we crib and wait at railway stations for hours.

Let the corporate world stay away from Air Deccan, people who cannot afford delays can fly other fancier airlines, let the train traveler move towards Air Deccan. You fly Air Deccan for its price, it is cheap, so expect some cost cuttings some thrift.

Please don’t think that cheap means late. Air Deccan definitely needs to pull up its socks. But we should understand most of the delays could be attributed to our airports, which do not allow fast turnarounds.

They maintain safety which is paramount, except for a few unfortunate incidents, which our media blows out of proportion, maybe enough coverage of these incidents are given by competitors also.

For my personal experience with Air Deccan. I booked on a morning flight from Bangalore to Chennai and return by evening on the same day. My office tried to save costs and it was for a very important meeting. We call up the airport before departure to check timings and they say sorry flight cancelled, but not to worry we have scheduled you on the evening flight. We say but what about our return. Answer no change in that. We said sorry we want to cancel. They say sorry charges apply. You can go in the evening and come back. (It was the same plane returning back to Bangalore). I don’t know how it was resolved as I just threw up my hands and gave it to our admin lady. We rescheduled the meeting, luckily they also had some bad experience with Air Deccan, and we cracked a few jokes on Air Deccan and flew a competitor next day.

I have never flown Air Deccan since, and dont plan to use them for official purposes, BUT if I have to fly with my family on a vacation I will certainly choose Air Deccan. I can afford a delay in my vacation schedule and more importantly, it will save me tailoring charges by not creating ahole in my pocket.

So India let us accept Air Deccan for what it is and choose it knowing fully well you cannot expect world class efficiency and peanut rates.

Hence I am giving it a high rating for allowing cheap flying, even though I doubt whether the common man will fly.
