I go to **Rediff.com** for: (1) check what's happening in share market by loggin in to money.rediff.com, (2) get the latest India breaking news and articles by journalists, (3) to share my comments with other boarders on its message boards, and (4) for free email account.
The **Money** section is very good. It continuously feeds you share market story as they happen on various Indian TV channels, and also major stories around the world that affect our markets. It also has a searchable database of Indian companies and lot of useful info on each such as 3 month, 6 month and 1 year charts, what Mutual Funds are buying this stock, and they have a nice meter showing how hot (or cold) the stock is at present, apart from news streams related to the sector to which the stock belongs.
The **News **section is also quite comprehensive. The usual hot stories of the day are continuously updated. The Rediff reporters or articles by independent authors may not always be non-biased but on the whole, they do try to present both sides of the story (if there are any). It's fast. I always go here to get the latest cricket scoreboard when I am working on the computer.
The **Message Board** section is the most unhealthy aspect of this portal. It seems they have a bunch of teenagers (or people with that mentality) moderating the boards. One has to get a free email account under an assumed username which then allows you to post msgs on the board. Most of the boarders are youngsters having no social grace, netiquette, proper English skills, and worse have trouble communicating. One will be better off staying away from this literally 'filthy' environment. I wonder how Rediff.Com as a responsible Indian portal allow people to post such comments.
The free **Email **account is the standard freebie one can expect from almost any such portal worth its name these days. Navigation inside is standard, nothing noteworthy to write about.
*CAUTION: **I was quite shocked to see the messages posted here in my name by someone else. It seems it's easy to crack their security and steal identities which can wreak havoc on your privacy. My observation would be that the people would be better off NOT signing for an email account here, and they would certainly be better off staying away from their message boards.
