We were on a budget and hence took this airline. We were really scared about transiting in Jeddah but after traveling through the place it wasn't half as horrid as I hoped it would be.
Stick to these pointers and you should be fine:
No need to wear burkhas.
Dont carry liquor. I know, this airport is supposed to be'international' and anything you buy from Duty Free after check-in should be allowed but no, they do not allow liquor through Saudi in hand luggage. Carry your 2 bottles/ per person limit in your main baggage. We learnt through the hard way which ended in draining the entire bottle down the terminal's toilet.
Use the Airport Lounge. It's not going to be top of the class or luxurious but you dont want to brave it out and wait for your transit time in the main waiting area. Carry 20 Euros/ or currency equivalent to that amount with you(it doesn't matter what class you're traveling in). They accept only Euros and dollars at the airport lounge. They provide hot food, non-alcoholic beverages, comfortable sofas, massage chairs, smoking room and free wi-fi. It made our 8 hour wait so much more bearable.
Keeping these in mind your transit in Jeddah will be nothing but comfortable. I'm hoping the new airport will be better.
