Samsung's quality is very poor

I bought this music system cum DVD player in Nov 2007 after much comparison with other models of Samsung & other brands purely based on the features versus cost advantage. This was one of the few models less than Rs.9000 that had a USB port.

Within 1 & half yrs of usage - that too I used it very sparingly( it was used only 3 -5 times a week that too mostly for audio cassettes), it does not read any CD / DVD. I took it to the Samsung Service Centre. They inspected it & said that the CD / DVD reading lens is not working and it would cost Rs.1500 to replace it plus Rs.500 service charge. That too there would be no further guarantee for the replaced part!

A Rs.2000 expense for a product that costed just Rs.8900 and that too just 18 months old!

I felt it was exhorbitant and brought back the system to my house. The service engineers said that being an electronic product such failures are expected! Wow! That is Samsung's quality mantra. Watch out!

I had a Philips music system that I used without any problem for 8 long years and I still have a 5 yr old Philips DVD player that is working fine. Even the LG CD / DVD drives that I got for my PC about 4 yrs back are working fine till date.

No wonder Samsung attracts customers with low prices and fancy advertisements but alas it is the customer who suffers at the end of the day!
