The Diva Puts Out A Breathtaking Disc!!!
Aug 04, 2006 04:43 PM 1916 Views

Originality:

Mariah Carey is no doubt an all time Diva!!!!! Rainbow is an album that changed Mariah forever! Starting out on the hit single Heartbreaker!!! Mariah takes on a humous song here!!! Like most singles Mariah leads out with on any disc, it is dancy and upbeat!!! I personally find this to be an all time favorite of mine!! I play it alot!!!! Even the rap in this song is very catchy and not to mention it had a great video......Mariah even plays on Grease in this video for the song and also adding a Charlie's Angels fight scene!!!! Where was the MTV Video award for this great video...If not one of Mariah's best of all time???

Can't Take That Away brings us back to classic Mariah Carey!!! Mariah is soulful here and very much in the style that reminds you of another Mariah classic, Hero!!!! Had this been a song done around that time, garunteed Mariah would racked up yet another #1 hit!!!! This just goes to show how much pop and radio and times have changed!!!! Mariah really soars on this song about positive attitude and self confidence!!! This is also the song that made her former lable Columbia Records upset over!!! Mariah did a very touching video about being different and mixed......Mariah lets you know the listener that being of a mixed race is not easy......I really love this song alot....and if you know what it is like to be different, then you will love it too!

Bliss is a very r&b styled song!!! Using a very 70's sound effect, Mariah offers a song that is very much a song that legend Minnie Ripperton may have done had she still been living!!! Mariah does the controlled scream here and ti is awesome to hear the diva harmonize it!!! This is a song that defines Miss Carey the true diva she truly is!

How Much is dancy and upbeat.....this should have been a radio hit!!! Mariah teams up with hot r&b singer Usher....the two bring heat to this upbeat tune!!!!! It does tend to sound a bit like a TLC song we all know as No Scrubs...but no need to worry folks, I think Mariah was just using the sounds that were hot at the time!!!! Mariah does not duplicate anyone....she is after all a diva that knows what she is doing!!!!

After Tonight is another Mariah Carey ballad!!!! This sort of takes you the Mariah fan back to her Daydream cd!!!!! A tender ballad.....had this been released, this would have been a number one on the adult contemorary charts!!! Shame on the label for not pitching this to radio!

X-Girlfriend is a different song for Mariah! Typically in her vocal she is Mariah, but she is tackling the subject matter of the pestering Ex!!!!! You will find it funny in places, especially if you releate as a listener!! This is also a song that should have gone out to radio!!!!! I must say that Columbia certainly did not do this album any justice, even though the sales of Rainbow were quite good!

Against All Odds.....if Phil Collins comes to mind, then you are absolutely right!!!! She does this remake justice!!!! Mariah Carey never flaws up any remake she has done and you will love this version of this song from Mariah Carey!!

Heartbreaker ( The Remix ).....I like this remix but I feel that one mix on the lp is enough....this should have been on the single only.....yes it is dancy but too much for the album! Mariah could have put another song in its place for variety!

Crybaby is an urban tune for Miss Carey...teaming up with rapper Snoop Dogg, the two put together a great tune here....not too dancy but not too soft.....this is a great one to jam in the car to!!!!

I find this one not too bad......you will hear these two later on, on Mariah's Grammy winning cd The Emancipation Of Mimi!

Did I Do That? is one you all really need to listen to! You will end up laughing at yourself once you get the song's message!!! We have all been in this situation of being so blind and foolish....just when you think you found mr/miss right, you find you were wrong when you start to see just how wrong you were!!!! Your friends and family see the things you did not and when you wake up from such illusions, you comeback to your senses!!!!! Grauntee you will play this song alot!!! The only flaw I find with this song is the rapper who has the annoying line of You Can't Stop---Nah nah aahh....it gets on your nerves....Mariah should have left that out....it is a perfect song minus the annoying and not to mention useless rap!!! But try to put out of mind the annoying rap and focus on the words.....you will like it!!!

Petals is yet another Mariah ballad...sounding very similar to One Sweet Day when the opening chord hits, it takes you in a different direction!! Had this been a few albums earlier, Mariah would have had yet another #1 hit on her hands...but regardless of the record company's foolish mistake of not releasing this song, you will be amazed at this song!!! You get Mariah at her best and not to mention a confession in this song!!!! I think most can relate to this tearful type tune!!!

Thank God I Found You closes out Rainbow.....teaming up with r&b singer Joe and the hot hot hot 98 Degrees, the fivesome offers an awesome song here!!!! Thank God differes from most Mariah songs that close out an album! Most Mariah albums usually ended on a sad and serious note....this song was about happieness and bliss!!!! This song was a mild hit for the group of powerful singers here, it had some semi-regular play on Vh1 and making a spot on Total Request on Mtv!!!! Too bad the song did not soar to #1.......but once again one album too late! Over all Rainbow is yet another classic from Miss Carey!!! This was Mariah's last full length for Columbia.....the next would be her soundtrack on Virgin for the movie Glitter!!!
