I have to say, I loved this movie. The 'desi' audience always complains, ''oh its the same story, the same movie'' and then when something actually good and different like PAHELI comes along, they still don't like it, they want their usual ''masala'' film. Every thing from the acting, directing, cinematography, casting, story, songs is awesome. PAHELI is a film based on an Indian folktale 'Duvidha' written by Vijaydan Detha. To sum it up in one really long sentence, it is about a ghost who falls in love with a girl, who is 'in need' of love from her husband who has gone away for five years to take care of the family's business. pheww! It is technically beautiful, the special effects are believable and used sparingly. The puppets are a delight to watch and serve as the ghost's conscience. I love the camel race scene, in which no special effects are used, It is all SRK's acting, film editing and camera technique. Even the comedy is situational, it doesn't drop in out of no where to relieve the audience of melodrama. It is a film that takes chances and gives the audience more than what is expected. Rani looks gorgeous as usual and SRK continues to surprise me on the kind of roles he is doing, after a great performance in SWADES. Paheli is a film that should be celebrated, yet I have heard negative comments from many people. It is one of the most innovative and original films in recent times. It is films like 'Paheli' that redeem Bollywood for making stereotypical films or copying hollywood. The Music is also amazing. I have become a fan of M.M. Kreem's music after JISM, which is one of my favorite Hindi film soundtrack. Paheli is a visual and musical delight and is definitely one of the best films to come out of Bollywood this year.
