Vishal Bharadwaj has done it again with OMKARA.
I salute the musical genius of this man completely- one is reminded of the drak satire of 'MAQBOOL'.
as you listen to the album, you feel as if you are being taken in blindfolded through dark coridors , while you hear screeches, blood curdling screams, wails of terror and pathos and finally as you approach the ned, it climaxes into something tragic!!!!!
My personal favourite is Naina..... thag lenge- gulzar is at his poignant best- lyricists have alot to learn from him in terms of 'hitting the nail straight' without going over the top.
Its been a long time since one has heard pure lament- as masterfully rendred by Rekha Bharadwaj in Lakad Jalke Koila....
Raunchy, saucy, slightly sinister... and yet not below the belt- thats how I would qualify the two 'tamasha numbers,- beedi and namak isk ka- the latter is a total stroke of genius , done in the thumri, country folk style...
Overall , a superb album.
