Me and my family booked Olympic Airlines tickets from Dubai to Athens. I don't remember the aircraft type but it was probably Boeing 737. The check-in process went well but once we boarded the flight, we were shocked. The seats were cramped together and had very less leg-room.
The aircraft didn't seem to be very clean either. What was surprising was the fact that the seats didn't even have an audio jock, forget personal TVs. The airplane was perhaps the nosiest one I have traveled in so far. I was actually scared during take-off that the luggage compartment over me would fall down since it was shaking so much. Anyways, I was aware of the fact that my journey wasn't a very long one and hoped every thing will go fine.
About 30-40 mins into the flight, we were offered food. Me and my family are vegetarians and we had told the airline about this. My father had called the airline a day before we were traveling to remind them to have vegetarian meal for us. But we were offered non-veg meals by flight attendants. We obviously asked the attendants why our request wasn't met.
And they replied that they had veg meals but since other passengers ahead of us opted for it, they served it to them. This seemed very strange for two reasons. Firstly, Olympic Airways doesn't offer vegetarian meals unless requested at least one day before the flight. Secondly, there were five of us and the attendants definitely knew about our request and should have given us priority since we had asked for it in advance regardless of the fact that we were sitting relatively behind. We had specifically asked for "Asian vegetarian" meal and I found it hard to believe that the attendants offered these five Asian vegetarian meals as an alternative to passengers sitting in front of us. We were very dissapointed especially because it seemed quite obvious that the attendants were lying. Anyways, we had salad and sweet dish and my mom was thankfully carrying some snacks in her hand bag.
The landing was even more scary than take-off because the plane landed on the left rear gear first. I assumed it was probably because of cross-winds but there wasn't any turbulence before we touched down. Anyways, once we reached Athens, my father called up the airline and gave them a piece of his mind. It worked because on our return flight, they served us Asian vegetarian meals and guess what? We were the first ones who were served food even though we were sitting relatively back. We didn't expect this airline to be a Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific, but the airline turned out to be the worst I've traveled by so far. So, I don't recommend this airline unless you have no other option.
