I kinda like Karan Johar movies, coz I always watch them for the light-hearted, fleeting entertainment that candy floss movies provide. However, KJos latest offering MNIK failed to impress. I wanted to watch the movie for obvious reason - first and foremost, my right to freedom, second, a lot was being spoken about the movie being a masterpiece, and KJo's attempt at making a mature film on a serious subject.

The movie starts on a promising note. Flashback into SRK's childhood days, his relationship with his mother. SRK-Kajol love story is charming and needless to say they share a fantastic chemistry.

I wont get into the plot as a lot has been already written about it. Can just give a few reasons on why one can give this one a miss -

1) 9/11 and its after effects - a subject that has been done to death. And, nothing new here.

2) The protagonist suffering from a disorder - watch PAA. In this one, our hero is no less than a super-hero in spite of Asperger's syndrome

3) I like Kajol - but for some reason she was completely wasted

4) SRK - neither in his regular come-fall-in-love-with-me-open-arms charm or SWADES/ CHAK DE sincerity. Felt something was missing.

5) Over the top situations, a total mish-mash of 9/11, Hurrican Katrina, etc. Kajol's son dying, her outburst at SRK was completely nonsensical.

The supporting cast has done a good job but the lead actors don't live up to the expectations.Would like to sign off on the note - KJO, give me a Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna anyday and will watch it again. But, not MNIK.
