I live 45 km from cochin and munnar for me is just 3 hrs away. apart from the commercialized hillstations in south india like kodaikanal and Ooty, munnar is the best get away for people who like the cool weather. the accomodation scenario is building up to be top class with a few classy resorts. but, there are budgeted getaways for those romatic couples, with old fasioned condos and homely food for roughly 750 per room. and the service is impeccable. yes, I agree transportation is a headache, but if u have yer own set of wheels its the best way to go. you do not need a guide to explore the hills of munnar, but make it a point to have a detailed map of this hill resort from cochin. and a very good navigational skills to go with. I wish I could write more but , ma boss will have to walk with me to the front door. later
