As a person with a great love for travelling and seeing beautiful and lovely places..when I got a chance to visit Kodaikanal, it thrilled me.
Situated approximately 500 Kilometers away from Bangalore, this lovely hill station is cocooned within itself, surrounded from all sides, by beautiful, lush, green mountains. And the most surprising aspect of this whole trip was that I discovered a star shaped lake. From an ariel view the lake is actually in the shape of a star.
We stayed in one of the best hotels called The Carlton. It overlooked the lake.I can still recall the tranquil feeling that spread over the lake as the rays of the sun momentarily broke out from behind the clouds.
They offer free trips on the shikaras into the lake as an added incentive for your stay in the Carlton.
THe cheapest and the most reasonable place to eat food was the Woodlands which gives one the authentic taste of real south Indian dosas, uttapams, idils and wadas. Yummy!
Then that long and absolutely breathtaking stroll along the Coakers walk. This walk is actually built over the edge of a cliff and you can see the clouds drifting in and out of the valley. The air is crisp and is scented with flowers that are all round Coakers walk.
I still can't forget the trip to the Belgian Covent where they sell hand made embroidery...and I bought a set of table mats for my mother.
THe people wore woolens and the locals seemed quite comfortable going up and down the pathways, as was the case in a hilly area, while I ended up panting and heaving.
The best thing about Kodai is that it has a beauty which is not yet touched.Unlike other famous hill stations this place has not been commercialised.
I would recommend newly weds to definitely go there for a honeymoon. It will be worth remembering.
