Kenwood KDC-MP228 FM Frequency Step / Security Cod. Review on Kenwood XD V860

Cool one with value for money. As I write this I guess its phased out from the market, but who cares I have an iPod ready, MP3/WMA/CD player all for just 6grand INR in 2005 Oct. Well yes I bought it in $$$ through a friend in USA as I wanted something cheap and nice.

But many things are not documented and the manual can be thrown to trash bin first day itself. As if we do not know how to figure how the system works. There are somethings that will put you in a fix and I was on a couple of times. Sharing my experience .

First thing is dont turn the security on on any Kenwood car system. If you pull the batter y out it will not accept even your original code. Putting the unlock hack here from a site:

Also, many folks say US frequency step does not work in India and you cannot hear radioCity. Well..thats a bummer for a bangalorean and I decided to live with it for quite a while. Then I googled on it and got an old brochure of a Kenwood cassette car audio. It said switch off the system by pressing SRC. Press 1 and 5 and SRC again and you are in the 200khz step. Press it again and you are in 50Khz. Pretty cool and it works for me damn well. I tried this at a nocturnal hr of 3 AM and I would like to shout EUREKA....All you folks who got the car audio from US via Kenwood...you can now rock on FM in India :) Looking forward to Radio Mirchi!!

KENWOOD SECURITY CODE CLEAR procedure

Your radio will require one of the following procedures.

Type 1

During the code request mode, while holding the DISP key depressed, press and hold the Volume UP or DOWN key for 3 seconds (so that “…” disappears).

Then using your remote enter your code.

Type 2

Press the ''Auto'' button and ''Track up'' on face of radio at the same time. The four dash lines ( . . . . ) should ''disappear''.

Then using your remote enter your code.

Type 3

Model# DPX-4020 and DPX-4030

Press and hold the 1 then the 6 preset key (preset keys are the buttons on face of radio for storing you ''favorite'' radio stations). ''C'' should display.

Then using your remote, enter your code.

Enter your number from the remote control unit. Your code number is 5227 (KCAR)

Press numeric key “5” ( 2 times ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key

Press numeric key “2” ( 3 times ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key

Press numeric key “2” ( 1 time ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key

Press numeric key “7” ( 2 times ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key

push buttom ''track up'' for 3 seconds

The security is canceled and the set enters the TUNER mode!
