I take this opportunity to congratulate this young Pakistani Girl for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. She truly deserved it. Malala Yousafzai is a proud citizen of Pakistan, who was born in the Pak conquered Kashmir - The Swat Valley. She now stays in Birmingham, UK with her family.
Malala has written this book in Birmingham, when her family shifted there after she was shot in head by Taliban. She was merely 14 when she was shot. In the book, Malala talks about her life from the days she was a child. She also explains her family history, the history of their clan and how much she loved her Swat Valley. The book also mentions the enormous support and love Malala received from her family and friends.
The Pashtun tribe is famous for their courage and love of their land, and the same depiction of these qualities can be seen in Malala. She has the great qualities of Leadership and Public speaking like her father and grandfather. One may find while reading the book that Malala is not like other girls in her neighborhood or her extended family. Being a Pakistani and a Muslim, she does not like to cover her face with burqa. Being a child, she was courageous enough to convey her thoughts of liberty to her family and the society. She believes that there was no reason any girl should cover her face, she should be proud of her identity and should be happy to reveal it. This made me fall for this beautiful and courageous young woman.
The book also mentions Malala’s love for her books and the school. She loved learning. The sad state of Pakistan is that not many writers who speak about their country’s dark side are tolerated. They are either jailed or are killed. Malala very bravely mentions their country’s present state. How Taliban has eroded their country and has kept it from progressing. How many innocent people are killed and slaughtered who do not follow Taliban, and how the country’s government has become helpless. Malala Yousafzai became a leader and started speaking out loud for her and other girls’ rights for Education, when the Taliban imposed a ban on Girls Education.
The book gives a detailed knowledge of Malala’s journey of struggle against the people who impose a ban on Education for all, not just for girls. This young and brave girl has got goosebums to all who read this book and has become an inspiration for everyone to raise their voices against societal evils.
