The Ameo is a major milestone for Volkswagen. It is the first made-for-India car of the German car maker. Sure, Ameo is essentially a sedan version of the Polo but even doing that is unprecedented by the company’s standards. Launched only with a 1.2-litre petrol unit a couple of months back, the Ameo now gets a 1498cc, 109bhp, 250Nm diesel, that on paper, is the most potent engine out there in its category. It is torquey, feels acceptably refined on the boil and comes with an option of being mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed automatic. The latter nothing less than VW’s high-tech DSG ( dual clutch) unit.
