If you've ever wondered how things work, the simple explanations here may help.

This site is very American, but as a practical approach to technology it's great fun. A scientist called Marshall Brain (yes really !!! ) explains everyday stuff that we take for granted - how toilets and toasters work, when and how we'll have hoverboards, and so on. It's aimed at kids, presumably, but there's something here for anyone who isn't a science graduate.

Your refrigerator, the stock market, Boolean logic, your immune system, currency, lock picking, tooth whitening, digital cameras, mistletoe, Euro, machine guns, DVS's, The Maybach, slot machines, cell phones, engines, operating systems........ howstuffworks.com explains them all, whether you're doing homework or just browsing for fun.

Its simple mission is to teach people how things work in the world.

The site has something for everyone........... Very helpful for students.

As testament to its value and accuracy, this site won more than 20 awards, including the 1998 “Cool Site of the Year”.

The creator ( Marshall Brain....as far as I can tell ) has presented a dynamic/interactive/scripted Web site par excellence. But another part of the explanation is that Brain has nothing to prove in the technology stakes. With all that programming expertise, he doesn't feel challenged to create fancy, inscrutable, cutting-edge interfaces. He clearly feels perfectly free to pour all of his considerable passion into communicating ideas well.

That's the Brain recipe: not much interface, lots of content. How Stuff Works's ratio of content to interface ranks among the lowest anywhere on the Web.

Brain depends upon readers’ questions and the answers contributed by experts, for the site content.

It is also enabled with a search engine so that you get the stuff you want........quick !

This site will give some good exercise to those grey cells.............DROP IN Sometime.

This is one cool site worth visiting !!!!!!!!
