Howrah Station the picture of the large red station building comes to our mind. The existing grand red Howrah station Building was started with six platforms in 1905 . Then another four platforms were added to it . Passengers from Kolkata would come to the station through the bridge made of boats placed side by side on the Ganga. The station had gone through several changes before it became a modern station. Howrah Station is one of the largest and busiest stations of the country and the world as well. There are as many as twenty one platforms in the station today with 196 pair of local and long distance trains arriving in and departing from it. Over ten lakh of passengers use the station daily. The Howrah Station Building truly deserves the status of the heritage building.
