I am back to **MS** after almost a **month** of **writing a review.** With **increasing population** and the **use of automobiles** the volume of traffic in **towns and cities** in our country has been rapidly increasing.

The growing traffic can be managed better only when the **road users** understand and follow the **prescribed rules and regulations.** **Traffic management** largely depends on **Traffic rules.** All the road users shall follow the **traffic rules , regulations and general discipline** in the interest of his/her safety. There has been a large **increase** in the number of **road accidents** in India. **Hundreds of lives** are lost everyday on the roads of India’s towns and cities. A **well disciplined road use** is the only way to avoid **fatal accidents.** Well planned safety measures such as **Road dividers** and their well regulated use by all road users are therefore very essential.. The rules relating to **bicycles, scooters and motorcycles** are given below.

*Use of bicycles on the roads :*

*Bicycle** is the most **commonest** way of transport in India. The bicycle is a carriage. When riding it you must obey the law which applies to any other vehicle on the road. You shall observe the following rules and regulations :

@ Do not drive your bicycle recklessly as you may lose control. Maintain **controllable speed.*

@ You should not ride on the **wrong side of the road or cross the road abruptly.** Do not ride or wheel your bicycle on the **footpath.*

@ Don’t **stop suddenly, without signaling.** Better move towards the left margin while slowing down but signal your intention to the traffic behind.

@ Make sure that other people on the road can see you, especially in the **dark night.** You should have **light in the front and a red reflector in the back.*

@ **Road junctions** are dangerous, more so in our towns with narrow alleys and blind turns.

@ Any sort of hurry on your path either at the **junction or turnings or in a closely moving stream of traffic** just to save a few seconds of time, is dangerous and an accident is inevitable.

@ **Pedestrians** have the **right of way.** Slow down at the **zebra crossing.** Better stop if you see people crossing the road. In case of old people and children you must be very careful and give them ample time to cross the road.

@ Never try to **overtake a vehicle** in the process of taking a turn. Never ride besides a power driven vehicle.

@ If you want to overtake do it only from the **right** but only if the driver in the front has permitted or signaled you to overtake.

@ Never ever try to **compete** with **power driven vehicles.** Never hold to another vehicle.

@ Be careful of other vehicles on the road such as **bikes, autos and many other.*

@ Do not enter the street where you find **No entry** sign.

@ Ensure that your cycle **brakes and bell** are always in good condition.

*Use of motor cycles and scooters on the road :*

*Motor cycles and scooters** are **power driven vehicles.** Those who ride these vehicles have to possess a **driving license.** With out that they are offenders of law and liable for prosecutions and punishment. The tendency to drive **fast** must be curbed as it may lead to accidents. **Safe speed** is one at which the vehicle is under **perfect control** of the rider and could be stapped within the shortest distance of a clear vision. Keeping in view the variety of vehicles and their contra positional movements on our roads and the haphazard movement of the pedestrians a distance of **3 ft.** is the **minimum** within which the vehicle should be stopped to a stand still.

Do not over estimate the **stopping speed** as it depends on the road conditions. Most accidents to motor cyclists and scooterists happen due to **rash and fast driving** and their own **carelessness.*

*Bear in the mind the following rules and precautions while riding motor cycles :*

@ A two wheeled vehicle is prone to lose its balance if **sudden brakes** are applied at **fast speed.** Apply brake only when upright and in sufficient time. While applying **brakes** on turning you must prefer the **low gear.*

@ **Exercise restraint.** Hold back where necessary. **Overtake as quickly as possible** but after **proper signaling** and after assuring your self that there is no **vehicle** approaching from the **opposite direction.*

@ Ride with **deliberation**, if necessary. Keep distance from the vehicle ahead. Do not **‘Cut in’.** Never overtake just before the **zebra crossing.*

@ **Speed** intelligently and ride fast only in the right places.

@ Use the **right gear** according to the **right speed** at the proper time and in the particular situation.

@ Use the **horn** thoroughly, give **proper signal** and use your **lights.** Give good and clear signals so that other road users feel at ease. Never take a turn before signaling and taking a look behind or observing in the **rear view mirror.** Use the horn with light and your hand in signaling.

@ **Pillion riders** must not distract the driver by **idle talk** or cause imbalance to the vehicle.

@ Be **courteous** to the other road users and acknowledge other cortless extended by them.

@ **Helmet** is a must for all **motor cyclists and scootorists.*

*Some other precautions ought to be known by the drivers :*

@ Never take a close slanting turn on the bends and turnings. You may slip or lose control.

@ You are prone to **skid and turn** round on **sudden applications of the brakes.*

@ You should be extremely careful on **wet and slippery roads.*

@ Avoid **pot holes, wet and oily patches or sandy and boggy** places on the roads.

You came to the end of an **Entertaining Sher review.** Thank you very much for reading. And please do leave your **COMMENTS.*
